(May 4, 2011) A detail of the Beijing National Aquatics Center, better known as the “Water Cube”. In the reflection the overrated “7 star” Panggu hotel. After hosting the Olympic swimming and diving contests in 2008, the Water Cube served several events, including music performances. Following a renovation, the venue opened in August 2010 as a “subtropical” water park (water temperature around 27 °C; entrance fee 50 RMB). The Water Cube was one of the most celebrated architectural landmarks of the Beijing Olympics. The inserted photo shows the Water Cube, still under construction, in September 2007 and gives an impression of the size of its landmark defining “bubbles” structure.
